Week 1 Wrap Up

Week 1 is in the books, and turnovers decided all three games. Combined, the offenses ran 121 pass plays and got intercepted 17 times. More than 14% of all pass plays resulted in an interception. In comparison, only 9 touchdown passes were thrown.

The two running teams (Gil's University of Taint and my UT team), had the highest scoring offenses. The University of Taint also finished the game with three defensive touchdowns while allowing only one touchdown by Washington.

Super Slant helped Danny convert 70% of his third downs, while Mike's passing accounted for 98% of his yards. It will be interesting to see how OU fares against the secondaries of Texas and University of Taint.

In his first Xbox Live game, Chad managed to come from being down 14 - 0 to tie the game at 14 - 14. The rest of the game didn't go so well.

Texas (Chad) 14 - Texas (Roel) 45

False alarm. The stats email just came late. Here are the stats in all their awesome glory.

Two rushing TDs, three passing TDs, one defensive TD and a 40+ yard field goal. Fear my powerful O.

Still sucks that we have no video evidence of the game.

Texas (Chad) 14 - Texas (Roel) 45

This is how you screw up a game. First, have your Xbox lock up with 2:59 to go in the first half. Next, restart the game and finish off the remaining minutes.

Now instead of quitting normally, select "Friendly Quit." If your opponent accepts the friendly quit, not only will you lose the ability to save replays, the stats will also not get sent. Awesome.

In the second part of the game, Chad scored off of an interception and then drove the ball down field to tie it up 14 - 14. At this point I got very frightened, but my boys scored the next 31 unanswered points (with one pick six).

I'm not sure how I am going to handle the stats for this game in the spreadsheet. Here are the stats from the first 7 minutes of the game:

Stats Email

Don't forget to set up your EA account to email the stats of your ranked games. Here's what the email looks like.

Incidentally, beware of the cheater Florida half back. He runs like Usain Bolt on uppers. This confirms my belief that Florida is a cheater team.

I had no turnovers and went 15-20 passing (with the four of the incompletions because I intentionally threw the ball away and the other because my running back dropped a screen pass). Gil passed 11 times, threw two picks and had three other passes batted away by my defenders. Even after all of that, I still only won by three. I claim preseason TAINT on his team.

Here are the videos from the game. I will send everyone friend invites on EASportsworld.com, and should be able to pull in your movies. I am saving them on an online site, so these won't delete over time.

Playoff Rules

All six teams will advance into the playoffs. The top two teams from the regular season will have a first round bye, with the rest of the bracket set up like this:

Top Half
Seed #1 (Bye)
Seed #4 vs. Seed #5

Bottom Half
Seed #2 (Bye)
Seed #3 vs. Seed #6

In the event of a tie, here are the tiebreakers. I wanted to put point differential last to avoid people running up the score. Team ratings have been put in to help balance the odds for people using lower ranked teams.
  1. Head to head records
  2. Team rating (Lower ratings winning the tiebreak)
  3. Point differential.
Did I mention that I'm putting in a $10 buy in? Playoff winner takes all.

Here's the schedule for week 1. I was planning a big opening ceremony, but there weren't enough Chinese volunteers in the Round Rock area to make my vision come to reality. Just imagine a bunch of these guys with football shaped unicycle tires.
