Playoff Tiebreakers
It's not unlikely that four players will finish the season with the same record. In the event that this happens, we'll revert to the rules that we established before the start of the season. To refresh everyone's memory, here are the tiebreakers:
- Head to head records
- Team rating (Lower ratings winning the tiebreak)
- Point differential.
Head to head tiebreakers will be applied multiple times if needed. For example, if Derek beats Mike, Danny beats Roel and Chad beats Gil, four teams will finish with 3 - 2 records. In this case, I get the first seed because I win the head to head versus Gil (the only other team with a 2 - 1 head to head record versus the four tied teams). Derek would finish third because he would own the head to head tiebreaker versus Mike (the only other team with a 1 - 2 record against the four tied teams).
Team ratings will only be used if the head to head cannot resolve the tie. For example, if Mike, Gil and I finish with a 4 - 1 record, then the finishing position will be determined by the tiebreaker rules. Since Gil beat Mike, Mike beat me, and I beat Gil, the head to head records are also tied. Going to the second tiebreaker, we'd end up with me (team rating 89) winning the tie break, Gil (team rating 94) in second and Mike (team rating 96) in third.
Now I feel like a genius for having team ratings as the second tiebreaker.
The higher seeded team will host each game.
